Roadside Mailbox – Adding Curb Appeal
The right roadside mailbox can add value to homeowners by creating curb appeal. Today’s modern roadside mailboxes are not just for collecting mail. There are many shapes, designs and colors ranging from plain and simple to sophisticated and elegant.
Many homeowners create a curbside garden around a post mounted box to add an inviting and cheerful look to their yard. Others use large rocks, fountains or statues to dress up the area around their mailbox.
When selecting a mail box, choose one that is rust proof and weather-resistant. Curbside mailboxes are available as post mount boxes. The post mounted boxes are the most popular. Box designs range from very basic to sophisticate depending on the owner’s preference. Many new housing additions install these types of boxes for new homes. Some mailboxes can even be incorporated in a stucco, brick or stone masonry fixture to form an attractive alternative to a standard roadside box.
Most boxes are available in standard size (T1), large (T2), and extra large (T3). While these are functional, they are not aesthetically pleasing. These boxes can easily be dressed up by adding a garden or mailbox cover. There are many types of mailbox accessories available.
All mailboxes come with a traditional red flag to alert the carrier for outgoing mail. Other accessories available for mailboxes include a mail alert to signal the homeowner that mail has arrived, a mailbox light for when it’s dark outside, and a mailbox lock for securing your mail.
Address plaques are also available for displaying your name and street address. Another feature is a newspaper holder. The holder attaches to the mailbox or to mailbox posts and is used for keeping the newspaper off the ground and out of the weather.
Your personal style speaks volumes about who you are so it’s just natural that your style should reflect in the type of mailbox you display.
